A Message from the new LA County GOP Chairman, Mark Vafiades

Greetings!

On Saturday Dec. 15th, the newly-elected LA County Central Committee members (your local Republican Party representatives) convened and elected the new Board of Directors and Executive Committee members.

We have a great opportunity over the next two years to work together as a united party and begin turning around Los Angeles County, and making Republican candidates and causes competitive once again. I was humbled by the support I received from my fellow Central Committee members last Saturday, and I take the trust that has been placed in me very seriously. As promised, my commitment is to build a professional organization at RPLAC, one that will bring credibility back to our organization. Mark Vafiades

It is important to realize that our Party has had major challenges over the past few years and revitalizing it will take time but, by working closely together and utilizing the resources and talents we have available to us, we will see strong and measured improvements over the next few months.

I want to welcome the new Executive Board, and thank them for taking the time to volunteer their efforts and energy to rebuilding our Party. We have lots of dedicated individuals within RPLAC, and we will work together to have success in future elections. We all witnessed just last month, what can happen when our political infrastructure does not operate effectively.

Republican Party of Los Angeles County - Executive Board:

Chairman: Mark Vafiades
1st Vice-Chair: Stephen Smith
2nd Vice-Chair: Arturo Alas
Treasurer: Albert Gersh
Assistant Treasurer: Nancy Kremer
Secretary: Brad Torgan
Assistant Secretary: Susan Kennedy

I am excited and enthused to work with our new team, and with each of my fellow Central Committee members. I look forward to working together as we rebuild RPLAC into the political organization we all deserve and expect.

I want to wish each of you a very safe and happy Holiday Season, as you spend time with family, friends and loved ones. This last week reminds us all how fortunate we are to be surrounded by those who care for us, and add so much to each of our lives.
Thank you for your support!

Sincerely,

Mark Vafiades, Chairman
The Republican Party of Los Angeles County

Editorial: Status quo must be OK in Claremont, La Verne, San Dimas

Things must be going pretty well in the three Inland Valley cities that regularly hold their City Council elections in March of odd years.

Either that, or apathy rules in Claremont, La Verne and San Dimas.

It's mostly the former in the case of these three well-run cities, in our view.

La Verne won't even hold an election this coming March. No challengers filed to oppose incumbent Mayor Don Kendrick or Councilwomen Robin Carder and Donna Redman, so all three will have another term by default.

Nor did any San Dimas citizen step forward to take on Mayor Curt Morris or Councilmen Denis Bertone and Jeff Templeman… (Read more)

Mike Antonovich Sends a Warning

ANTONOVICH WARNS “CLEAN WATER” TAX FLYER MISLEADING

LOS ANGELES COUNTY—Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich urged county residents to check their mailboxes for the “Official Notice to Property Owners of Public Hearing” which could result in a property tax increase.

“While the mailing looks like junk mail, it is an important document that allows one to protest the proposed parcel tax,” he said.

“It is vital that property owners return the protest form to stop this additional tax,” he added.  “Property owners, schools and businesses already pay flood control taxes and now they are being asked to fork over more money at a time when families are struggling, schools are hurting and businesses are fleeing the state.”

Residents have until January 15 to file their objection by returning their protest form or protesting at the public hearing on January 15, 2013 at 9:30 a.m. in the Hearing Room of the Board of Supervisors at the Hall of Administration.  If a majority of the property owners do not object, the Board of Supervisors can approve a mail-in-ballot to be sent to all property owners in March.  Passage requires only a simple majority.

Those who misplaced this mailer, please call (800) 218-0018 or emailwater.info@dpw.lacounty.gov.
